If you apply online through the MMUR and your documents are in order, state approval typically takes 5 to 10 business days. You will receive an approval email from the state, which you can use immediately.
While your initial visit must be in person, Florida law (HB 387) now allows patients to complete their routine follow-up visits and certification renewals via telehealth, provided they see the same physician who conducted their initial in-person exam.
Yes. Florida law explicitly requires your first medical marijuana evaluation to be conducted in person. You can schedule this initial visit at either of our convenient EZmedcard locations in Tampa or Orlando.
The process is simple:
-
Book an evaluation at our Tampa or Orlando clinic.
-
Meet with our state-certified medical marijuana doctor.
-
Once approved, we will enter your information into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry (MMUR).
-
Complete your state application and pay the required state fee online.
Yes, in most cases. Having a medical marijuana card is generally permitted while on probation in Florida, provided you have a valid, state-issued card and a legal doctor’s recommendation. However, it is highly recommended that you clear this with your probation officer first.
You still need a medical card. Florida voters rejected the recreational marijuana initiative (Amendment 3) in November 2024. Therefore, cannabis remains strictly for medical use in the state. You must have an active Florida medical marijuana card to legally purchase and possess cannabis.
No. Seasonal residents (often called “snowbirds”) can qualify for a Florida medical marijuana card. You simply need to reside in Florida for at least 31 consecutive days each year and provide acceptable proof of residency, such as a lease agreement or a utility bill.
Florida law outlines specific conditions that qualify for medical cannabis, as well as medical conditions of the same kind or class. Some of the most common include:
-
Cancer
-
Epilepsy
-
Glaucoma
-
HIV/AIDS
-
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
-
Crohn’s Disease
-
Parkinson’s Disease
-
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
-
Chronic nonmalignant pain
To qualify, you must be a permanent or seasonal Florida resident and be diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition by a certified physician. At EZmedcard, our state-certified doctors in Tampa and Orlando can evaluate your medical history to determine if cannabis is a suitable treatment for you.
Florida does not accept out-of-state cards, but some other states practice “reciprocity” and will accept your Florida EZmedcard. Because laws vary drastically, always research the specific medical cannabis laws of your destination state before traveling with your card.
No. Florida law strictly prohibits home cultivation. Medical marijuana patients must purchase their cannabis products exclusively from state-licensed dispensaries.
The state sets rolling limits based on your doctor’s recommendation. Generally, the standard maximum limit for smokable flower is 2.5 ounces every 35 days. Edibles, tinctures, and concentrates have a 70-day supply limit. Our EZmedcard physicians will discuss the best dosage and limits for your specific medical needs.
Sometimes, but it depends on the state. You cannot purchase cannabis the exact minute you leave the clinic. You must first pay the $75 state fee online and wait for the official approval email from the OMMU (which takes 5–10 business days). Once that email arrives, you can use it to shop the same day, even before your physical card arrives in the mail.
Once you receive your state approval email, you can purchase cannabis products from any licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC), commonly known as a dispensary, anywhere in Florida. There are numerous dispensaries conveniently located throughout Tampa and Orlando.
If your state card or your doctor’s 210-day recommendation expires, your profile in the registry becomes inactive. You will not be legally allowed to purchase or possess medical marijuana until your renewals are processed and approved. We recommend starting the renewal process 45 days before expiration.
-
State Card Renewal: Paid to the Florida Department of Health ($75) once a year to keep your registration active.
-
Doctor’s Recommendation Renewal: A medical evaluation required every 210 days to legally authorize your ability to purchase cannabis. EZmedcard offers convenient telehealth renewals for our returning patients.
Your physical state ID card must be renewed annually (every year). However, your doctor’s medical marijuana recommendation (your actual “prescription”) must be renewed every 210 days (roughly every 7 months).
No. Because cannabis is still federally classified as a Schedule I substance, health insurance providers, Medicare, and Medicaid do not cover the cost of medical marijuana evaluations, the state card fee, or the cannabis products themselves.
